Poland enjoys reading, studying and attending seminars on advanced techniques,
treatments and procedures in Ophthalmology.
Bob Amis; B.A.
(Biology), M.Th.
Bob is our Practice Administrator,
Chief Technical Instructor, Refractometrist and Contact Lens Technician.
As Practice
Administrator, Bob is responsible for the hiring and administration of staff, employee payroll
and benefits, purchases, accounts payable and OSHA and HIPAA compliance.
Bob is also responsible for marketing and media production/designer and serves
as our computer
information systems coordinator. Bob trains our staff in all areas of
technical skills and serves as our back-up surgical assistant to Dr. Poland for
in-office surgeries. He also maintains and repairs most instruments used
in the office.
As Ophthalmic
Technician, Bob works with patients
on a daily basis performing retinoscopy and refractometry and assists Dr.
Poland in the design and fitting of Rigid Gas Permeable and Soft
Contact Lenses. For many years, Bob was a Certified Ophthalmic Technician
(COT) and was also Certified by the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLC).
Vickie serves as our
Front Office Assistants and is our primary Visual Field Technician.
Vickie
joined us
after almost eight years working in the Pharmacy in Wal-Mart. She assists
in the front office, working along with Donna, Kyla and Lou Ann. Besides checking
patients in, posting payments, filing, checking patient eligibility, answering the phone and scheduling and
confirming appointments, she
performs most of our computerized visual fields. Many patients know her from Wal-Mart and are
pleased to
see her working with us, as she is very
friendly and outgoing.
Lou Anne is our Front Office Assistant. Many
patients will remember her from over 10 years ago when she worked as our Front Office
Manager. She left us to be a "stay at home mom" to take care of her son, Sam, who has now entered
school and Lou Anne has come back to work with us as our Front Office
Assistant. She works along side Donna, who happened to also work with Lou
Ann "way back when." Though Lou Anne's responsibilities
include triaging patient calls, performing visual fields and scheduling and confirming appointments, her
major responsibility is fighting with insurance companies to make sure that
patients receive all the payments that is due them and ascertaining patient's
insurance eligibility. Lou Anne
is also cross-trained to perform various ocular
measurements.
Lou Ann is a former
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), having completed the national requirements for
certification when she worked with us in the past.
Heather serves as
our Screener and Ultrasound Biometrist. Heather is
responsible for screening patients before being seen by Dr. Poland. She
also performs our pre-operative cataract measurements and most of our other ocular
measurements, including measuring the curvature of the cornea (Keratometry
Readings) and Tangent Screen Visual Fields. Heather also performs our Glare
Testing and Potential Acuity Meter
measurements for our patients with cataracts. Heather also
instructs our cataract patients before cataract surgery in how to care
for their eyes to get the best results possible. Heather is cross-trained to scribe for Dr. Poland and
also helps in the front office as needed with filing, triaging
patient phone calls and scheduling appointments and checking patients in and
out.
Heather
is presently completing the requirements for
Certification as
an Ophthalmic Assistant by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in
Ophthalmology.
Donna
is our Front Office Manager and is responsible for the
management of our front office. Her responsibilities include the triaging
of patient
calls and scheduling appointments, posting patient exams and the coordination of patient benefits with insurance companies.
She is also responsible for Accounts Receivable and patient statements.
Patients
really enjoy working with Donna as she is very knowledgeable, efficient and very
friendly. Also, she can answer almost any general eye care question because of her training as a
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant and her
many years
of experience working and training with us.
Dana is our
optician. Dana joins us after working almost 10 years in the optical
business, both as an optician and in the lab making lenses.
Along with Dr. Poland, Dana works closely with patients to help them select the lenses that are best
suited for them both from a cosmetic standpoint and also based upon the
patient's lifestyle and activities. Both Dr. Poland and Dana keep abreast
of the advanced technology available today, so that the patient has the option
to have glasses made with highly advanced features to greatly increase their
visual comfort and acuity.
Dana is very detailed oriented and works
diligently on behalf of the patient to make sure they receive the best of care, both
at the time of purchase but also afterwards with glasses adjustments and
warranty issues. Patients
will find Dana takes the time necessary to properly select, fit and adjust
glasses to provide the best vision and comfort possible.
Kyla
joined our team the summer of 2007, before entering the
University
of
Central Oklahoma that fall. She returned to work with us during the summer of
2008 and 2009. Kyla serves as our front office receptionist
and assistant during the summer months.
Kyla's responsibilities include triaging patient calls,
scheduling and confirming appointments, posting patient exams and payments,
filing and performing computerized visual fields. All of our patients' enjoy Kyla's friendly and outgoing
personality and dedication to meeting their needs.
Erica
is Dr. Poland's Nurse and Surgical Technician. As
our nurse, Erica records all of Dr. Poland's exam findings in the patient's medical chart. She is also responsible for the
education of our patients concerning diseases, surgeries, use of medications and
eye drops, etc. As our Surgical Technician, she assists Dr. Poland
during in-office surgeries, including lid surgeries, laser surgery and lesion
removals.
Erica, as with all of our staff,
is cross-trained to screen patients and perform ocular measurements and often
helps with screening patients to assure that patients are seen in a timely
manner. Erica also helps in our front office with filing, scheduling
appointments and triaging patient phone calls. When Dr. Poland is out of
the office attending educational meetings and training, Erica is often the
person working in the front office.
Before
joining our team, Erica worked as a nurse at the Outpatient Surgical Center of Ponca City.
She is currently completing the requirements
to become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant by the Joint Commission on Allied
Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
